Rabbit Rescue is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to the welfare of rabbits. We have rescued rabbits from fate of euthanasia in local animal shelters and/or humane societies, unfit homes and from horrible deaths as snake meals or worse from predators or the elements when released outdoors to fend for themselves. (See "The Briar Patch Story")
Rabbit Rescue provides love, shelter, medical attention, nutritional needs, social and mental stimulation's for all our residents. Rabbit Rescue also shows the rabbits at various adoption activities in hopes to find homes for them and to educated the public about rabbits as pets. We provide medical referrals and informational pamphlets on a wide range of rabbit topics.
Along with our more healthy residents, Rabbit Rescue has crippled rabbits, rabbits with wry neck and other illnesses, injuries and behavior problems that usually preclude them being place in a permanent home. With minor adjustments to their living environments at the sanctuary, these rabbits are given a chance for a happy life.
Rabbit Rescue also sterilizes all the residents. Besides the many health risks avoided by sterilizing the rabbits, Rabbit Rescue believes to let a rabbit have a litter is to write a death warrant for a shelter rabbit waiting for a home. Even though Rabbit Rescue makes every attempt to find room for a homeless rabbit, since it is a No-Kill shelter, some are turned away when we reach capacity. Continuous efforts toward sterilization, public education and adoptions are the only way we can assure room for more unfortunate rabbits.
At Rabbit Rescue, we believe every rabbit should be given the opportunity to be a part of a family with a commitment to their entire life, to prove themselves as intelligent, curious, affectionate companion animals. We believe through truthful education on the care, handling and personalities of rabbits, owners will better understand their rabbit's needs and will not become disillusioned, frustrated or worse, abandon their once loved pet. Rabbit Rescue hopes to find safe and happy home for our residents through our careful screening adoption program, and if adoption is not possible, a permanent loving home in our sanctuary, free from the threat of being homeless again.
